The word solar is a Latin word meaning sun. The sun shines enough energy on the earth in one hour than is used by all of the people in one year. Humans have been using solar power since the beginning of humanity. Plants use solar energy for photosynthesis and solar energy powers the wind and the ocean waves.
With solar technology this massive amount of energy can be captured and converted into forms of energy that can be used to power our homes, businesses and even our automobiles. Using solar energy can be as simple as orienting our homes and buildings so that the sun will provide more light and heat them. Or with photovoltaics and other electricity generating technology the sun can be used to generate electricity. There is also research being done that could use the sun’s energy for chemical reactions such as breaking water into hydrogen and oxygen that could be used as fuel to power our automobiles.
